Redline(2026)
3 soprano saxophones
Written for Tim McAllister, Dan Graser, and Jeremy Cleary
Redline is inspired by my experience of trail running through the layered geology of Southwest Utah, where immense bands of sandstone, volcanic deposits, and eroded sediment reveal a landscape shaped over unfathomable spans of time. Drawing from the relentless climbs, exposed ridgelines, and ancient strata of places like Snow Canyon State Park and the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve, the work channels both physical propulsion and geologic time. The title refers not only to physical exertion and the razor-thin boundary between precision and collapse, but also to the exposed “red lines” carved into canyon walls and cliff faces—visible records of pressure, erosion, movement, and deep geological memory.
